WIlmington International Airport received a $4 million federal grant for improvements to ILM, according to an announcement Thursday.
The money, awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration's terminals program, will be used by ILM to fund a portion of its terminal access road and terminal curb front expansion and realignment.
ILM Airport Director Jeff Bourk stated in the release, “It's important to fund ILM’s five-year capital program to ensure the airport keeps up with the record passenger growth we’re experiencing. We’re proud that the five-year capital project is funded through federal and state aviation grants and that no loans or local tax dollars are utilized.”
Once complete, the five-year capital project "will replace aging infrastructure, providing better parking and traffic flow, expanding accessibility, as well as creating a more efficient and convenient pick-up and drop-off experience," the release stated.
According to the release, the FAA received 636 applications that totaled over $7 billion in projects for the FY24 program.
"Through the competitive grant process, the FAA awarded $970 million in grants to 114 airports across the country," the release stated.
