The 2024 Luncheon for Literacy featuring Special Guest Jason Mott

Sponsored Content provided by Alesha Edison Westbrook - Director of Communications, Cape Fear Literacy Council

The Cape Fear Literacy Council (CFLC) is excited to announce that our annual Luncheon for Literacy will return on April 23, 2024, at Northside Church in Wilmington, NC, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Guests can expect fellowship, inspiration, and a tasty, catered buffet. While the event is traditionally festive and filled with celebration, it is more than a meal. Cape Fear Literacy Council’s annual Luncheon helps to raise awareness of our region’s evolving education needs and provides crucial support for adult learners enrolled in our programs.

Cape Fear Literacy Council Makes a Difference

Over 60,000 adults in this region are estimated to live without the education and language skills needed to thrive. CFLC shines a light on the realities of this issue and the impact on our local economy and takes action to make a difference: we help ensure that local adults have access to the resources they need to become capable readers, English speakers, and engaged members of society.

Founded in 1984, the Cape Fear Literacy Council provides free and confidential literacy and language services to adults aged 18 and older. We assess each student’s skills and provide tailored instruction through one-on-one tutoring and small classes led by trained volunteers. Students in our Adult Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL) education programs focus on reading, writing, English conversation, math, test preparation, U.S. Citizenship, and digital literacy.

Attend the Luncheon

One great way to learn about CFLC and support our efforts is to join us at the Luncheon. Sponsorships and the option to be a table host are available. During the Luncheon, our corporate partners can connect with eventgoers and network with entrepreneurs, professionals, and local civic leaders. Reserving a seat or signing up to sponsor the event is simple; visit our website at www.cfliteracy.org/events and support adult education in our area!

Guest speaker: Jason Mott

The 2024 event, themed “The World of Literacy,” will feature a special appearance by award-winning author Jason Mott

He is the author of the novels The Wonder of All Things, The Crossing, and Hell of a Book. Jason’s debut novel, The Returned, was adapted for television and aired on the ABC network as “Resurrection.” The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author lives in southeastern North Carolina. He has a BFA in Fiction and an MFA in Poetry, both from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.

“We are so grateful to Jason,” said Yasmin Tomkinson, CFLC’s executive director. “His presence at the event will help us to raise much-needed funds to continue our work.”

All proceeds from the event will benefit our programs and help us fulfill our mission of providing personalized education so adults can transform their lives and contribute to a stronger community.
